Caraka described it under UdardapraÜamana group and Sushruta under SalasŒrŒdi gana. Both Sushruta and Vagbhata have delineated it in the….. Nyagrodhadi gana. Sushruta denoted it as Kala-skandha (S.S.Su.38/12). Two other species D. melanoxylon Roxb. And D. embryopteris Pers are also reported as Tinduka. All these species yield ediable fruits (ripen). Another species D. montana Roxb is known as ‘Vishatenda’. Vagbhata quoted as ‘Virala’ under Nyagrodhadi gana. “Tirala” Sphurjaka is Tinkuka or a variety of it.
Botanical Description – It is a small tree bearing unisexual whitish green flowers. This tree is found in all the temperate forests in India.
Major Chemical Constituents–Lupeol, ighant, sitosterol etc.
Part Used– Stem bark, fruit, seed, seed oil.
Dosage– Decoction 50-100ml; seed powder 1-3g., seed oil 10-20 drops.
