It is mentioned under Phala Varga & Hridya varga by Caraka. Its fruit is similar to that of Vrkshamlaij but not purgative. It is often used together with Bjapura. The fruit of G. pedunculata is used as Amlavetasa in Bengal & Assam. In other places the dried leaf stalks of Rheum (jsJevo) are in use. ‘Vetasa’ is another plant described under Kshiri Vrikshas which is different from Amlavetasa.
