Phoenix pusilla (SILEMANI kharjura)

This variety of kharjura was not quoted in the earlier texts.  Probably the persian dates were brought from the gulf during madanapala’s period.  This variety is botanically identified as Phoenix pusilla (Gaertn.). Asharasi is an excellent dry date of Iraq, with a rich nutty flavour. The flesh at the tip is translucent amber, shading to a creamy-white at the stalk.
