Identification of cancuda becomes little difficult since cancu and kalasaka were described earlier. The term cancuda and its synonyms like vesmakula are not observed in the brhat trayi texts as well as in other ighantu works. Its synonym svetaraji is also not found in any othe text. However, basing on the synonym brhatphalawe can arrive at some conclusion that it must be either kusmandika / karkaruka or third variety of patola / brhatpatola (?). Author proposes Trichosanthus anguina as cancuda. Another difficulty in drawing the conclusion will be that this plant is mentioned after patola and before palakya. The former is a vegetable fruit while the later is a leafy vegetable. Of course, patola saka is also used as a leafy vegetable along with the fruit.
