Grewia tiliifolia (Dhanvana)

It may be noted that Bhavamishra has described it under the name of Dhanvanga. All the Brihat Trayi texts have quoted Dhanvana. It is described among the asava yoni darvyas and its fruit as well as wood have been used. P.V. Sharmaji reported that G. optiva Drum. Is used as Dhanvana is Punjab.

Botanical Description – It is a small tree with purple-tinged branches bearing yellow flowers.

Part Used– Bark, fruit

Dosage– Decoction 50-100 ml.

Research–

The alcoholic extract of the aerial parts were found to have CNS depressant activity in mice (Bhakuni et al., 1969).
