There is some confusion in identifying tuni from brhat trayi texts. However, nighantus have described it elaborately. Kutherka and nandivrksa are the synonyms which led to controversy in its identity. Dhanvantari nighantu specially indicated tuni for the treatment of gandamala and sannipata jvara.
Botanical description – A medium-sized bushy tree; leaves dark green, large with broadly winged petiole, ovate-oblong; flowers large, white; fruits globose, oval or broadly pyriform, 15-20 cm diameter, yellow when ripe; rind thick; pulp white or reddish, sweet or acrid.
Part used – fruits, leaves.
Uses –
Fruits – antiscorbutic, refrigerant, cardiotonic etc.
Leaves – useful in spasmodic cough.
Chemical constituents –
Seeds – limonin, isolimonin etc.
Peels – naringin, poncirin etc.
