Jivanti is repeatedly described by the Brihat Trayi as tonic and reju-venant. It is traditionally used as galactogogue and also in Poultry. Thakur balvant Singh is of the opinion that a orchid Desmotrichum fimbriatum Bl (Dendrobium macraci Lindl.) may be Jivanti.
Botancial Description – It is a perennial climber grows upto 10m and possess greenish or yellowish flowers.

Dosage– Powder 3-6 g; decoction 50-100 ml.
Research–
- Both Leptaden tablets and L. reticulata powder in an equivalent amount produced significant galactopoietic response in goats, sheep, cows and buffaloes (Anjaria & Gupta, 1967).
(2) The 50% ethanolic extract of the whole plant (excluding roots) showed hypotensive action in cat/dog (Dhar et al., 1974).
(3) The antibacterial and antifungal properties have been established (Patel & Dantwala, 1958 & Dhar et al., 1974).
