Atasi and its oil (Atasi taila) are extensively used in Ayurveda. Oil is used in the treatment of Kushtha (skin diseases) and Vrana (wounds) in the Brhat Trayee texts. According to Acharya P.V. Sharmaji, there are two ecotypes of Atasi viz., Gangetic type and Peninsular type.
Botanical Description – It is a annual herb (rarely shrubby) growing upto half metre height bearing blue flowers.
Major Chemical Constituents– Campesterol, 5-dehydroavenas-terol, sitosterol, cycloartenol etc. from seeds.
Part Used– Seed, oil, flower
Dosage– Powder 3-6g., oil 5-10 ml.
