Brhat trayi quoted rajadana in their works. Ksirika term was used for rajadana by caraka (C.S.Ci.2/3,8). However, rajadana is the synonym for priyala as well. Rajadana is identified as Mimusops hexandra Roxb.
Botanical description – A large tree, about 8-9 cm high; leaves elliptic-obovate, obtuse or emarginate, base cuneate, coriaceous; flowers in subterminal clusters or along the branches; corolla white; fruits 2-seeded globose berries, yellow when ripe.
Chemical constituents – α- and β-amyrin acetaes, α- and β-amyrin cinnamaetes, taraxerol, cinnamic acid, hexandrone, hexandrin, myricetin etc.
Part used – fruits, seeds, bark.
Uses –
Fruits – alterative, nutritive, tonic and restorative.
Seed oil is demuklcent and amollient.
Bark – alterative, astringent, fegrifuge and tonic.
Note : another species M. kauki L. is also used medicinally known as Khirni in Hindi and Bengali.
