Loni is quoted by brhat trayi under saka varga. It is identified as P. quadrifolia Linn. Another species P. oleracea Linn. Which is known as kulpha or brhallonika must be kutira. According to dhanvantari ighantu, loni is the synonym for cangeri.
Botanical description – A small diffuse succulent annual herb, rooting at the nodes; nodes pilose; leaves opposite, parallel, ovate-oblong to ovate-lanceolate; flowers solitary; petals 4, style 3-4 fid; seeds small, densely ighantu; small fragments of plants strike roots; flowers left on such fragmnets produce viable seeds. Found throughout India as a weed.

Uses :
Fresh leaves are bruised and used as external application in ighantu pain, heamorrohids and erysiplelas. Decoction of the plant is used as diuretic as well as in urinary tract infections.
Chemical constituents : Hexacosanyl acetate, palmitic acid, β-stirosterol, β-amyrin etc.
