Sami is not described by Brihat Trayi ganas. How ever, they have mentioned it several times. Sushruta emphasized its role as depilator.
Note– Its another species P. stephaniana Kunth. Is being used in Punjab and Gujrat which is known as ‘Samira’ according to Bhavaprakasa Nighantu.
Botanical Description – This tree grows upto 20 m and possess thorny branches. Its flowers are yellow in colour.

Part Used– Bark fruit
Dosage– Decoction 50-100 ml; fruit powder 3-6 g.
Research–
An alkaloid mixture (1 mg/kg) given to dogs caused decrease in BP and immediate mortality. Extensive damage to liver, spleen, kidney, lung and heart was observed on histological examination of mice given to alkaloid mixture (Mediscope 1979, 22, 37).
