Caraka quoted it as VœtŒma under phala vargas and CakrapµaÄi described it as North Inidian species. Sushruta and Vµagbha¢a have deliniated it in their texts. In South India another tree- Terminalia catappa Linn. (Com-bretaceae) is being considered as VœtŒda.
Botanical Description – It is a small tree bearing red flowers and is found in temperate zones of India.
Major Chemical Constituents– seed oil- myristic, palmitic, stearic, oleic & linoleic acids. Seeds- Prunasin, daucosterin

Dosage– Powder 3-5 g.
