Bapalal considered it as one of the sources for Dravanti-Though Jayapala is not mentioned in the Samhitµa granthas, most of the nighantus have quoted it as purgative.
Botanical Description – It is a evergreen small tree 15-20 ft height possessing greenish yellow flowers. It is found mainly in Assam & Bengal in India.
Major Chemical Constituents– Seed- -sitosterol. Oil- phorbol-12-tiglate-13-decanoate (I), Tiglyol etc.
Part Used– Seed, seed oil
Dosage– Powder 25-50 mg, oil 1/2-1 drop.
Research–
(1) Isolation of new highly active tumor-enhancing compound C-3 from seeds (J. Med. Chem. 1965, 8, 672).
(2) Plant extract, used as folk medicine for treating cancer, showed activity against p-388 lymphocytic leukaemia in mice (Science 1976, 191, 571).
