Along with masa, mudga is another pulses which is extensively used sice very early times. While masa is guru-snigdha in nature, mudga is laghu-ruksa in nature. It is one of the most commonly used substance for yusa and supa.
Botanical description – It is an annual herb; stem etrect, 30-60 cm high, hairy; leaflets dark green, membranous, 5-10 cm long; flowers yello; pods subcylindric, 3.8-6.3 cm long; seeds 10-15, green.
Part used – seeds, fruit, root
Uses – Seed – aphrodisiac, tonic, diuretic, galactogaguem syptic; indicated for scabies, gonorrhoea, rheumatism, hemiplegia etc. Root is claimed to be narcotic, It is used by the Santals tribes for the management of body pains etc. According to susruta, the fruit is an effective remedy in the treatment of snake-bite.
