Botanical description – A small dioecious shrub or spreading tree, 6.1-9.1 m hight, with sharp decompound spines on trunk; bark smooth, grey; wood rather hard, orange or red; branches many, near the trunk spiny; leaves ovate-elliptic, acuminate, serrate, green, .1-7.6 cm x 2.5-4.5 cm; fruit ellipsoid, dark-red or purple when ripe, edible; flesh firm, fairly juicy, brownish-gren. Flowering during July-August and fruiting during October-December. Found in Northeastern region, West Bengal, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Eastern Ghats.

Uses –
Fruits are useful in case of liver disorders.
Bark decoction is applied in biliousness and infusion of bark is used for gargling in case of hoarsness of voice.
