C. melo var. momordica or C. melo var. utilissimus (GAJACIRBHATA)

Among brhat trayi gajacirbhata is quoted by  vagbhata alone (A.H.Ci.14/38).  It may be a variety of Cucumis melo (C. melo var. momordica or C. melo var. utilissimus) which is used as a purgative fruit.  It may be used as a sustitute for indravaruni as well.

Botanical description  A climber cultivated thoughout India.

Chemical constituents – Phytostearin, salycyclic acid, vit.C, resinous substance etc.

Part used –  seeds, leaves, fruit

Uses –

Seeds – anthelmintic and antifungal

Leaves – applied externally in case of burns.
