Schleichera oleosa (kosamraKA)

Among Brihat Trayi only Sushruta quoted it among the ingredients of NyagrµodhŒdi gana, Its synonym Kusuma is also used for Garcinia cowa Roxb. (Kurala).

It is also important to note that it should be astringent being one of the ingredients of Nyagrodhadi gana. The tree bark may have this property while the fruits and seeds have purvagtive activity.

Botancial Description – It is a big tree growing upto 32 m height bearing yellowish green flowers.

Major Chemical Constitents- Bark– Betulin, lupeol, sitosterol, scopoletin

Part Used– Stem bark, seed

Dosage– Decoction 50-100 ml; powder 1-3 g.
